2nd Generation

Layne Magee

Layne on the xr80 back in 2002

For the past couple of weeks I have been putting some work into fixing up Layne’s 2002 XR80R. We bought this back then and also got an XR200R for me. This was to get back into riding. This XR80 was used to teach Layne how to ride and he was only in 3rd grade at the time of purchase.  Here is a picture of him finally getting to the point where he could ride this thing and it was in a big open lot in the neighborhood.

Tyler is getting into the new ride

Yesterday I finally got the bike back to a point were it was good enough to ride.  Not completely done with the re-build, but the major part has been completed.  Anywho, Tyler & I took the bike out for a test of both him and machine.  To see if the bike was good and to see how well Tyler could use a clutch.  Up to this point he has been on a bike that had three gears, but no clutch.  The xr80 has a 4 gears and a clutch.

We got out to the same open lot as I did about 8 years ago and put Tyler to the test.  Tyler took to the clutch and the extra gear like he had been doing this his entire life.  All 11 years of it.  Taking off, stopping and shifting with little effort.  Tyler only stalled once, which is more than I can say about how I ride.

And soo off we go, teaching a 2nd generation how to ride a dirt bike.  God has really blessed me.  Thank you Lord!
